Capital Gains Tax.
In my opinion, New Zealand should
introduce a Capital Gains Tax to better fund hospitals, the education system,
and public services. Australia has had such a tax since the 1980s. The National
Government often compares New Zealand’s tax system to Australia’s, claiming we
pay more tax, even though that isn’t accurate. My mum says it’s like comparing
apples to pears, as the National Party does, which doesn’t make sense. New
Zealand is one of only 20 countries worldwide without a Capital Gains Tax.
Right-wing media outlets like TVNZ and the New Herald oppose it and attempt to
portray it negatively, but I believe it’s long overdue.
