I
have been very concerned about Nelson beggar, Hone Ma Heke, who has been
protesting outside the Farmers store every day until recently. He is a public
pain and his friends from the night shelter gather there around him, which has
been putting people off going into shops in that area. He is protesting about
not being able to camp wherever he likes with his horse and cart. I read in the
paper that he has left horse shit on Victory Square playing field.
He
has also had fights with members of the public who don't agree with him. I think
he should apply to get an unemployment benefit and do some volunteer work or
training. He claims he does not want to be a burden on the State but he is a burden
on shopkeepers. He was sentenced to two months in prison for not doing the community
service sentence he was given for assaulting a member of the public who didn’t
agree with him. When he gets out of prison he will probably just carry on where
he left off.
