In July 2001, I started visiting
the Wood Retirement Home on a regular basis. I met some wonderful old people
such Mag Frenda who was from Perth in Australia. Joan who was from Ireland and
who worked for Winston Churchill during the war. There was this guy called Toby
who was a hard case. I found older people easy to talk to and to get along with.
I was lonely as were they. In April 2002, I got invited to help the bowls team and
they would play against the Green Gables rest home every Monday home and away.
It was heaps of fun and I enjoyed it a lot until 2003 when I decided I had
enough. I learned a lot from these old people and it made me a better person
for knowing them.
