In
1995, mum and dad got permission from my teacher, Miss Nelson, for me to go and
watch the NZ Academy cricket team play South Africa at Trafalgar Park. It was a
three day game and the Academy had players like Nathan Astle and Paul Wiseman.
In the South Africa team was Hansie Cronje who was the Captain and they were coached
by Bob Woolmer both of whom have since died. I got given some team pants by Eric
Simons who didn't play in the game and was only in NZ for ODI games. He was
very friendly and liked my general knowledge on cricket. Mum, dad, Miss Nelson
and Mr Breingan, another of my teachers, were all very impressed. Eric Simons is
now bowling for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
