This
summer, on November 5th , the Black Caps will play a twenty-twenty cricket
game in Nelson against England. I am really looking forward to it and I am also
going to see India play the Black Caps, in Wellington, at the end of January
next year. I think Nelson getting a game against England is going to be great
for the region and I know it will put a lot of money into the Nelson economy. I
know commentators such as Ian Smith, Craig Cumming and Mark Richardson are fans
of Saxton Oval and believe international cricket will continue to come to here because
Saxton’s, like Bay Oval and several other grounds around New Zealand
are cricket only grounds. Unlike Eden Park which Simon Doull loves.
That is why, when he comes to Nelson, I am prepared to cook up a 'Pukekohe v
Canterbury Spud Challenge' which will be on the table for Simon if he wants to
take it up.
