The Church Steps, in Trafalgar Street, have always been a big part of Nelson. I remember, when I was a child, hearing the church bells ringing when I was at my grandparents place which was very close by. The Church Steps were where the Springbok tour protest of 1981 took place. At the top of the Church Steps you get a great view out to sea.
