I was a regular visitor at The Wood retirement village between July 2001 and July 2004. I first went there because my neighbour was staying there after being attacked in the Housing NZ flat in which he had been living. I didn't have very good communication skills then but I learned a lot from the residents. I met Madge, Jean and Dorothy. They had good people skills. In April 2002 I became bowls coach and we played Green Gables home and away every fortnight. I was the coach until 2003.
